SSWARS-iC was born out of Sustainable Sanitation and Water Renewal Systems (SSWARS), originally as a non-profit making, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), which was registered to operate in Uganda in the year 2005. SSWARS was certified and duly registered on the 30th September 2005 by the National Board for Registration of NGOs in Uganda under the NGO Registration Statute, 1989.
SSWARS fully operated single-handedly as a non-profit making, NGO until the year until February 2018. At that time, global changes were anticipated to take place following the installation of the 45th President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald John Trump. Indeed, the period 2017 to 2021 became unpredictable especially for organisations and agencies that had positioned themselves as champions of sustainability, sustainable utilisation of resources, sustainable consumption, circular economy, climate change etc.
Consequently, in order to plan for the unknown ahead, SSWARS-iC was born, as a for-profit company, to support the not-for-profit SSWARS and prevent it from collapse. The two, SSWARS (not-for profit) and SSWARS-iC (for profit) run concurrently. .
As mentioned above, the re-organisation that gave birth to SSWARS investments Co Limited (SSWARS-iC) was to respond to the changes that were taking place globally, considering the direction the 45th President of the United States was taking, to decrease resources allocated to climate change related interventions. There was need to have a for-profit- company, to avoid collapse of SSWARS due to reliance on donor funds and continued operation as a not-for-profit, NGO.
Consequently, SSWARS-iC was incorporated on the 1st of February 2018. Although SSWARS-iC started as a new company in 2018, it started on the firm founding and experience of SSWARS, which had been built for over 13 years. As a not-for-profit NGO, SSWARS had undertaken several development projects from inception, through planning, implementation, operation and maintenance and monitoring. Various projects were evaluated and audited and found to have successfully met the objectives envisaged at the beginning. Consequently, SSWARS-iC has a tremendous amount of experience gained over the years. The firm has, on its roster a very large number of trained and experienced consultants in an extensive profile of disciplines.
The company aims to impact long lasting changes in communities, not only in Uganda but intends to impact upon the entire Eastern and COMESA regions and beyond, through delivering high quality products in consultancy and research, in a variety of fields. These fields are elucidated in the following sections.
